Week 3 Reflection

In Session 3, we met Ulyssia Dennis, a chaperone for the trip who works for Engineering Career Services. I think it will be interesting to interact with an Engineering Career Advisor and learn how recruiting differs from Engineers to business, as well as learning how recruiting is different from Western countries to China. Jonathan also presented an example slide deck on Currency and Payment, which was really helpful to determine how my group would present our slide deck on Business Practices in China. Hearing his presentation was reassuring, but also made me a little nervous on the security of payment in Asia. I was always very careful about using my card and tracking my expenses in Europe, and I feel I will have to pay even closer attention while I am in China to make sure my data and card information are not breached and all of my information remains secure. Additionally, we also received some general reminders about things to expect in China regarding transportation and theft. Being self-aware is very important, especially if we will be out late. I am going to make sure I download apps like DiDi for transportation and connect WeChat for payment. I definitely want to do a VPN as well or an international phone plan. I did not have one while I was abroad, but the questionable WiFi in China makes me wonder if I should get one. I definitely am going to be more cautious about my technology and stores I purchase things at while I am abroad.
