Reflection #3

Today Johnathan started off the class talking about currency usage as an example presentation. It was good to know that I should bring cash on the trip, as I was originally going to only bring a little and mainly rely on my credit card. I had looked up before if I would easily be able to use it and luckily there are no foreign transaction fees so if for whatever reason I run out of cash, I will have that as a backup which is comforting. I do need to figure out where I can change my money though, hopefully my bank on campus will be able to do that for me.

We got into our volunteer committee groups and I’m excited to start researching etiquette. We have a great group and everybody seems just as eager as I am to start learning about Chinese culture. The other groups also seem to have great topics. I hope I can learn a lot from the tech group about which websites will be blocked and what VPN I need to download to access them. I’m also interested to learn more about the cities we are going to. It will be really cool to see those presentations on what to do there as well as any history behind them/ cultural significance.

Finally, I want to share my professional brand statement that we were asked to prepare before next class:

For our business trip to china, I hope to be alert, adventurous, and calm. I want to make sure I’m not sleepy during company presentations and can give presenters my full attention. I also want to try new foods and experience new places. I don’t want to stay in the hotel room instead of going out and exploring during free time. Finally, I want to stay stress-free and on top of everything. I tend to freak out in certain situations and I want to relax and make sure to think clearly.
