Reflection 1

This first class really helped me to think more concretely about what I am hoping to get from this trip. While I was and remain very excited, I had not thought too deeply about why this was. After reflecting on this I came to the conclusion that one major reason why I was so excited was that it was going to be something very different. The most “non-western” place I have ever traveled to was Anatolia in Turkey which was still pretty close to where Troy had been located before the events of the Odyssey. This will make the culture which I am immersing myself in very different to any place I have been yet. This “newness” of the Chinese culture to me is what excites me most about this trip, and what I am most excited to learn more about.
