This is it. There is no more. One last class, and what a blast! But let’s get to that in a second.
First of all, the red tape activities with my I20, passport and Visas were a bit of hassle, but I’ve made it anyway. After all, I have to go through similar activities every time I want to depart from Russia, and I would assume other international students have to go through the same motions as well. Still, it had been arguably easier here, in good part thanks to Beth’s involvement matter. Again, thank you.
Fast forward to the day of the class. Arguably, this one had been the most useful of them all, since we have had a chance to interact with the previous year’s class (namely, 23), whose members had plenty of stories to tell and abundance of tips to give out. The one that I have found to be the most perplexing and thought-provoking was the tip regarding the use of Virtual Private Networking services such as NordVPN. While I was aware of the rampant suppression of freedom of speech and basic human rights within the Communist People’s Republic of China, I have never truly reflected what it’s like to not have access to the most basic of social services widely available in the West. I have done some research of my own, and while I was relieved to see that using these services is not illegal, I can still only remotely grasp the social media withdrawal shock that will hit me the moment I land in Shanghai.
Other than this minor inconvenience, I am ready to fully immerse in the mysterious world of Chinese business.
